Despite the drawback in US-Cuba relations, cruise tourism to the island continues to grow. Miami-based Royal Caribbean has announced it will increase the number of ships travelling to the island in addition to including two new ports in its itinerary: Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba.
The new guidelines for travel to Cuba under the Trump administration left many tourists wondering if Cuba was now off-limits once again. As it happens, it’s still possible for Americans to travel to the island, provided it’s done under the “support for the Cuban people” category. It’s a relatively easy way for solo travellers to see the island, provided they don’t mind keeping detailed records.
The latest edition of Rough Guides’ much-lauded annual list of the best places to visit has now been released for 2018, with Cuba appearing in the top destinations among some big hitting competition, from Malawi to Russia and Indonesia. Cuba is ranked sixth overall, ahead of South American hotspot Chile and South Africa.
