For the first time in fifty years, Americans are able to visit Cuba after the Obama administration loosened travel restrictions. Global Gaz website recently published a list of important facts and handy tips for US citizens to take into account whilst planning a trip to this Caribbean island.
Cuba has recorded a significant increase in tourists from the United States in the first half of 2016. Since President Obama’s administration launched special licences for Americans to travel to the Caribbean island, more U.S travellers have taken advantage. In the first six months of 2016, a total of 2,147,919 international visitors were recorded, which is an 11.7 per cent increase 11.7 percent compared to the same period in 2015.
In a symbolic and historic move that mirrors the changed times we live it when it comes to the significantly improved relations between Cuba and the U.S., for the first time ever the U.S. abstained from voting against the lifting of their trade embargo on Cuba; which together with Israel’s abstention meant the UN resolution finally passed. Even if symbolic and not legally binding, it marked a crucial moment in history that was met by a burst of applause among all other participating UN nations, who have historically voted in favour of ending the embargo.
