Café Presidente offers a relaxed, laidback vibe that makes for a welcome retreat from the bustling streets of downtown Vedado. Serving mostly traditional Italian cuisine, anyone on a day of hectic sightseeing will find this stylish café the perfect place to get their breath back.
Café Presidente’s frothy cappuccinos are divine and worth a pit stop alone (this is an Italian restaurant, after all!) but if you’re looking for a more substantial meal then the lunchtime menu offers up a fine choice of options.
Familiar crowd-pleasing Italian classics feature heavily, and while the menu isn’t huge the range of dishes are all beautifully prepared. Café Presidente’s pizzas are one of the most popular options on the menu. Cooked to a thin crust recipe and generously topped with fresh ingredients, diners are treated to a light and crispy pizza that comes packed with flavour. Although it’s worth noting that portion sizes are definitely on the hearty side, something you might want to bear in mind if you were aiming for more of a quick lunchtime snack.
There’s also a tasty range of pasta dishes to take your pick from including spaghetti with garlic and shrimp, classic lasagne, spaghetti al pesto and a rich, creamy carbonara. Café Presidente also turns out juicy homemade burgers with serrano ham and french fries while their wonderfully flavoursome beef tenderloin also proves a big hit with customers.
If you’re exercising portion control, lighter options that get the big thumbs up include the excellent bruschetta, fresh Presidente salad and the beautifully tender fish Presidente.
However, temptation is never far away and there’s a fantastic range of desserts on offer that might just tempt you to indulge. One of the highlights is the ‘3 leches dessert’ (three milks cake). We dare you to resist!
Without question, Café Presidente definitely offers value for money. Prices are incredibly reasonable and the staff go out of their way to make you feel right at home. With a warm and welcoming atmosphere, slick service and a range of tasty Italian classics cooked to perfection, this ideally located café-restaurant is a great example of Cuba’s increasingly sophisticated dining scene.
