El Atelier demonstrates a kind of gastronomic flair you won't easily find in Cuba. The inventive range of dishes are beautifully prepared and elegantly presented, making the whole experience feel like a feast for the senses. With a convenient location in El Vedado, El Atelier is also easy to reach from the nearby areas of Old Havana and Playa.

Set within a Havana mansion originally built in the late 1800s, El Atelier is owned and run by Niuris Higueras and haute cuisine-trained chef – Enrique Edreida. In the 1930s, the mansion was rebuilt and a second-storey added, which is where the restaurant is situated. Having spotted its potential, the owners have transformed this aging property into one of Vedado’s most highly regarded dining establishments

Since the new owners moved in, El Atelier has been redesigned to feel fresh and contemporary. However, some original features remain, including the wooden ceiling and elegantly shuttered windows and doors. The restaurant also possess a slightly quirky charm thanks to the old typewriters and sewing machines placed out on display in the dining room.

When it comes to choosing a table you can either sit in the spacious main room or opt for one of the two separate rooftop terraces. The terraces are breezy, comfortable areas scattered with soft cushions – ideal if you’re looking for a more informal spot to enjoy your meal.

It’s also worth noting that El Atelier changes it menu every day. This daily rotation means only the best produce is served, keeping dishes fresh and diners on their toes. But it’s not just the menu that gets a regular makeover. Every day, the décor of El Atelier is altered slightly – from the arrangement of the tables to the choice of Cuban paintings hanging on the walls, nothing stays still. All of this means you’re never likely to have the same experience here twice.
The eclectic range of dishes that come out of Chef Enrique’s kitchen are exemplary. Enrique trained in Paris, which was clearly time well-spent judging by the skill and precision with which he serves an inspired choice of French classics. Standout dishes include the falafel, pato confitado (duck confit), conejo al vino (rabbit in wine), Fajita de res y pollo (fajita beef and chicken) and pollo con camaron a la crema (chicken with shrimp in cream).
Whatever dishes are available on the day you book here, you can feel confident you’ll be treated to a memorable evening of fine-dining.
The service at El Atelier is also fantastic and Niuris and her team go out of their way to make you feel right at home.
