Humboldt 52 Club
Humboldt 52 is a clear example of a more confident and modern thinking Havana. It is the city's most popular gay venue. Located in Humboldt street number 52 on the corner of Infanta, in the border between Centro Havana and Vedado, this small and unassuming looking bar has swiftly attracted a loyal and local crowd. There’s also an incredibly friendly atmosphere that ensures anyone and everyone from out of town is made to feel more than welcome.
One of the main reasons to visit Humboldt 52 is for the sheer variety of entertainment. As well as glitzy drag shows and dance performances there’s regular karaoke. And if you turn up on a Wednesday evening, you’ll be treated to an entertaining performance by a talented operatic duo. A giant TV screen in the main bar also plays music videos, often featuring well-known Cuban artists.
There’s also a decent sized dancefloor, which is often the scene for some pretty serious salsa skills. Join in and show off your own skills if you fancy it, or just take the opportunity to sit back with a drink in hand and watch the pros show everyone else how it’s done.
The venue itself is pretty small, which only adds to the overall buzz of the place. Due to its size and popularity, space inside Humboldt 52 is often at a premium and while there’s plenty of seating it’s best to show up early if you want to guarantee you get inside.
Along with the frequent entertainment, there’s also a well-stocked creole cocktail bar that gets increasingly busy as the night wears on. Along with a great range of drinks there’s also a decent selection of bar snacks including juicy burgers and a tasty selection of tapas . The service at Humboldt 52 is also second to none and remains swift and friendly no matter how packed the venue gets.
If hunting down a quiet spot for a relaxing evening drink is your thing, Humboldt 52 might not be for you. But if you fancy a fabulous night out with karaoke, theatrical dancing, kitsch entertainment and the odd operatic performance thrown in for good measure, then this popular venue should definitely be on your radar.
