La Cecilia Restaurant and Bar
Catching a live music show when you’re in Cuba is an essential part of any visit here. After all, music is part of the nation’s soul - the very fabric of an island where live salsa, reggaeton, rumba and pop seem to spill out from the crowd-filled courtyards of restaurants, bars and clubs.
But of course, there are certain venues that are worthy of a special trip. Situated in the stylish Miramar district of Havana, La Cecilia is one such destination.
Incredible live music
Come on Friday and Saturday nights, when large crowds gather in La Cecilia’s attractive tropical garden courtyard to hear a range of vibrant live music performances. The garden has a large stage area and hosts a wide variety of jazz, bolero and salsa acts. There are also regular performances from a host of top reggaeton bands, with pulsating shows from well-known Cuban artists including El Micha, Chacal and Los Desiguales.
La Cecilia frequently caters to large tourist groups and despite the spacious surroundings of the venue, it can still end up getting a bit overcrowded. That said, if you don’t mind the touristy vibe and a bit of a squeeze, it’s worth spending an evening here to savour the fabulous range of live open-air concerts that make it so popular.
Fantastic local cuisine
Along with the superb music, La Cecilia is also known as one of the more high-end restaurants in Havana. Offering top-notch local cuisine, the focus is largely on fresh seafood and traditional creole dishes. Favourites from the menu that are well-worth considering include the congrí rice and succulent roast suckling pig. The ropa vieja (shredded beef) is also a great option and then there’s the house speciality - Criollita Cecilia. There’s also a very decent selection of fine wines to complement your meal.
An unforgettable night
Whether you come along for the superb food or the live music (we suggest both), La Cecilia promises an interesting experience. The fun, relaxed atmosphere and picturesque setting of the garden courtyard is a great place to spend an evening and soak up an incredible atmosphere that represents and sums up the life-affirming soul of Cuba.
