La Ferminia Restaurant
Set within a beautiful colonial house restored to its former glory, La Ferminia is all about dining in true style. You’ll find it in the pretty neighbourhood of Flores, near Miramar district; just a short journey from Havana’s downtown area and close to the Convention Center.
The house itself certainly evokes old world grandeur. Wander inside and you get an immediate sense of its elegant past with polished marble floors, chandeliers, antiques and ornamental statues perched atop period furniture.
There are a selection of separate dining rooms throughout the property as well as a leafy garden patio. For many, this secluded outdoor area makes for an incredibly inviting place to relax on a warm Cuban evening over drinks and diner.
Local and international flavours
The menu brings together local Cuban and international cuisine, all served to impeccably high standards. However, to sample the very best of what La Ferminia has to offer, you’ll definitely want to go ahead and order the mixed grilled meats.
Cooked up on a huge grill outdoors, a mouth-watering selection of pork, beef and chicken skewers, as well as 3 different types of sausage, are brought to your table one at a time. The various side dishes of rice, salad or beans are all served family style.
You can also enjoy the likes of grilled shrimp, lobster tails, steak and traditional local favourites such as congrí (black beans and rice). In short, you’ll be treated to a genuine meaty Cuban feast.
The drinks menu is also extensive and features a range of cocktails including the specialities of the house - Coco Rosa and Tropical Silver.
Worthy of a special trip
While dishes are simply prepared and stay close to the kind of mainstay classics you might find elsewhere, the flavours and quality of ingredients clearly stand out. As well as the quality of the dishes, the experience of having smoky, just-grilled kebabs brought sizzling to your table makes for a memorable dining experience.
And of course, if you’re looking to enjoy a meal in one of the most sophisticated restaurants Havana has to offer, La Ferminia fits the bill. It’s also famous for being one of the rare places where Fidel Castro has been seen dining out in public.
