Waoo!!! Snack Bar and Paladar

Waoo!!! is the colourful name given to this paladar just across the street from the Hotel Habana Libre in the heart of Havana's Vedado district. Though the restaurant calls itself a "snack bar," the relatively upscale setting featuring an impressive wooden wraparound bar seems to contradict that description. Award-winning cocktails and a varied menu ranging from hamburgers to lobster medallions without a doubt make Waoo!!! one of the top restaurants in Havana, Cuba.

This paladar across the street from the Hotel Habana Libre calls itself a "snack bar", but its varied menu of quality dishes says otherwise!

When you hear the phrase "snack bar," especially when it comes to an island like Cuba, what would you typically imagine? A tiki bar on the beach serving up fresh fish? A mobile stall on a Havana side street cooking hamburgers on the grill?

Well as it turns out, the Waoo!!! Snack Bar and Restaurant is deceptively named. In reality, this paladar focuses less on the "snack bar" part of its name in favour of the "restaurant" side of things!

The Atmosphere

First of all, Waoo!!! is graced with without a doubt one of the most central and convenient locations of any eatery in Havana's Vedado section. It can be found right on the intersection of Calle L and Calle 25, just across the street from the iconic Hotel Habana Libre and just a block away from the world-famous flagship Coppelia ice cream parlour.

If you're expecting a classic snack bar, you'll probably be quite surprised as you enter the place. Waoo!!! features an impressive dark wood wraparound bar, and its dining room tables are covered by white tablecloths and folded cloth napkins. This said, the ambiance is not particularly elegant nor stuffy in the least-it's a fine place to stop by in jeans and a T-shirt while exploring Vedado in the afternoon.

Service at Waoo!!! is friendly and competent, and its bartenders especially are known to treat their customers fantastically.

Food and Drink

Once again, the selection and quality of food at Waoo!!! totally supersedes what you'd expect from an eatery with the phrase "snack bar" in its name.

First of all, there certainly are food options that would be appropriate at a snack bar. For example, the house special at Waoo!!! is a whimsically decorated plate consisting of two small hamburgers, French fries, and sauteed vegetables. However, the menu spans much further than that-and once you're into lobster medallion and cheese with dried fruit plate territory, you're no longer in the snack bar that you might once have been imagining.

Finally, Waoo!!! is also famous for its cocktails. Original concoctions dreamed up by the bartenders have won national awards, and many visitors consider the mojitos here to be the best in Havana. Perhaps it has something to do with the non-traditional honey and angostura bitters added into the mix?

For a convenient and quality lunch or dinner in the heart of Vedado, it's tough to beat what Waoo!!! has to offer. Though often considered a bit pricy compared to similar paladar peers, most diners would agree that the quality here is something special and at the end of the day you certainly get what you pay for.
