The Best Of The Best

Offering recommendations and opinions on the best restaurants, bars and cafeterias in Havana, this blog is for all serious foodies out there, who, like myself, love to find the best spots to dine and wine whilst on holiday. This is for those who want to know where to have the best Cuban, homemade, international, gourmet or signature cuisine and where to have the best cocktails, and the most delicious coffees.

The best of the best aims to be your culinary guide with recommendations on where to eat and drink in Havana. I will share my opinions about different bars, restaurants and cafes in the city, based on my personal experience.

I will recommend you bars and restaurants to visit; make comments on their menus; the dishes I suggest you try, as well as comments on the atmosphere, the service, and whatever other aspects to help you make this a suggestive, nice and delightful visit.

When I travel to a new country or city, I love to eat and drink well. I am very happy when I find someone who can personally give me orientation on where to eat, which ends up being much better, more honest advice than what you find in tourist guides. Locals are really specialised in this; they know the very best places. I want to become that person for you by making suggestions from within. I want to share these experiences with people visiting the city, just like I do with friends coming from other countries when I take them to the places we like to enjoy: the best Daiquiri, the best grilled fish, the most beautiful views and so on...and on.

Hotel Riviera - a roaring 50s city emblem with a glamorous mafia history

This coming December there's a very special Havana hotel and National Monument that's turning 60 years old. The Habana Riviera, beautifully poised overlooking the scenic Malecon has a whirlwind past of glamorous Hollywood guests, mob owners and swinging casino nights. A riveting past intertwined with the crime, corruption and glamour that was ripe in Havana before Castro's revolution triumphed, the once swanky Riviera still has plenty to show and tell 60 years on.

Iberostar Bella Vista - Varadero's newest luxury hotel, a fine choice for families

Many were expectantly awaiting its opening last April. As part of Iberostar’s Premium Gold Collection, it promised to be ground-breakingly luxurious. By design it certainly is grand, sleek and very modern. Yet the service is still in the early stages of familiarising themselves with the discerning clientele and ongoing training is working to drive up standards. Still, it’s one of your safest bets in the gorgeous Varadero beach stretch. I went with my family last June and had a fabulous time.
