Jamaica Day Trip from Cayo Coco

Montego Bay is the second largest city in Jamaica, and has plenty of exciting things to see and do for visitors. Go and soak up the sun on the white sand of Doctor's Cave Beach, experience true Jamaican culture in the city centre or shop till you drop on Gloucester Avenue.

Make the most of being in the Caribbean by spending a day in colourful Jamaica

This day trip to Jamaica starts with a short flight to Montego Bay on the northern shore of the country. Here, for the first half of the day, you will have some free time to do as you please.

One of the main draws for visitors to Montego Bay is the beautiful white sandy beaches and crystal clear tropical waters. Spend your morning sunbathing, taking in the stunning scenery, walking along the beach with your toes in the surf, or even trying your hand at some water sports.

If beach life doesn't appeal, you can venture into Montego Bay city for a slice of real Jamaican culture. There is a distinct change in atmosphere as you move away from the tourist area by the beach, cross Gloucester Avenue (the famous shopping street), and enter the city that the locals call 'MoBay'.

Originally settled in 1510 by the Spanish, many of the first buildings were torn down when the British colonised the country in 1655, but there are still beautiful Georgian mansions, left over from wealthy banana and sugar growers.

You might choose to spend your morning ambling the streets looking for bargains. Gloucester Avenue is the place to head for souvenirs and gifts, whereas the street markets on Harbour Street are a more lively experience.

For the second part of the day trip, you will head to Dunn's River Falls, a 600-feet-long natural limestone waterfall surrounded by lush native vegetation. Those looking for a bit of adventure can join a local tour guide who will walk you up the actual waterfall, so be prepared to get wet! Those choosing to stay dry can climb the stairs alongside and take photographs of the stunning rainforest surroundings. Alternatively, you can still get wet without climbing the waterfall by simply bathing in the pool or standing beneath the cascading water as it trickles down your body in a massaging motion. You'll be in one of Jamaica's most photographed attractions and in the very same setting as James Bond, as this was one of the locations featuring in Dr No, as well as countless many other films.

This is a day trip that is ideal for both nature lovers and city goers alike.
