Santiago De Cuba Overnight
Santiago de Cuba; a place where heroes lie and culture thrives.
Before visiting the grandiose setting of Santiago de Cuba, you get to enjoy a short stopover in Bayamo. It is one of the largest cities in the Oriente region, and boasts some majestic natural scenery and authentic architecture. Your first port of call will be a stroll through the main boulevard, stopping off at the Hymn Square. This historic landmark is where the national anthem was sung for the very first time.
Santiago de Cuba awaits after lunch, and upon arrival, you will have the chance to visit Cuba's patron saint - Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre. During his time in the city, Pope John Paul II personally honoured this area.
After a day of taking in the sights at your leisure, you can look forward to checking in to your 5* accommodation at the Melia Santiago Hotel - one of the most iconic hotels in the city. Enjoy spectacular views of Sierra Maestra, extra personalised service, top notch facilities, and of course a multitude of fantastic live entertainment options in the evening. After dinner here, you will be swept away to Troubadour's House, which has played host to some of the biggest stars in Cuban music in the past.
After breakfast, you can look forward to a visit to Castillo de San Pedro de la Roca, a colossal fortress six miles south west of the city. Following this will be a stop off at the iconic Santa Ifigenia Cemetery. This cemetery was established back in 1868 for victims of the War of Independence, and holds over 8,000 tombs, including Jose Marti. The penultimate stop on this excursion is a trip to Moncada Barracks, which was famously raided by Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries in the past. Finally, you will head back to Holguin for lunch, followed by some well needed leisure time around Santiago Central Park.
