Havana Overnight from Cayo Coco
Spend two days exploring the history, culture and nightlife of Havana before heading west to visit a lush tobacco plantation
The first part of this trip will be spent on a guided tour of Havana. While walking through the streets, you will be able to see lots of places of interest, beautiful architecture and colonial influences. The Spanish arrived in Cuba in 1515 and much of the city has retained this colonial charm.
Part of the tour will take you through Old Havana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1982. Here you will see elements of Moorish, Spanish, Italian, Greek and even Roman influence while meandering along the cobbled streets. You will discover why Ernest Hemingway fell so in love with Havana.
The tour will take in many famous monuments, including Plaza del Armas, Havana's first public square; the impressive Catedral de San Cristobal de la Havana; and the imposing 16th century Castillo de la Real Fuerza, considered to be the oldest fort in the Americas.
There is so much history in Havana, but there are more recent changes to take in as well. During the 1940s and 50s, Havana was thriving, and the style seems to have stuck around. More modern areas of the city show Art Nouveau and Art Deco features, and you won't be able to miss the vintage cars on the streets.
In the evening, once you've checked into your hotel, you will be taken to the famous Club Tropicana for an evening of pure entertainment. Around 200 dancers take to the stage with feathers, sequins and bright colours. Cabaret shows, singing, dancing and drumming fill the air. This is a night you won't forget in a hurry.
On day two, you will have a more tranquil time, with a trip out to the west of Havana to Pinar del Rio to visit a traditional tobacco plantation. Cuba is well known for its cigars and here you will see how they're made. Perhaps you might take one home as a reminder of this fantastic two-day trip.
