For an alternative and insightful way of exploring Havana, let American titan of literature Ernest Hemingway be your guide. On this tour you will discover Havana's most important and historic sites, before tracing the city's links to the iconic author of The Old Man and the Sea.

Historic Havana

Your tour will begin with visits to some of the Cuban capital's most famous and historic sites, offering an insightful contrast between the old and the new. You will stroll through the cobble stone streets of Old Havana, accompanied by an expert and highly knowledgeable English-speaking guide.

You will take in numerous Havana landmarks, including the exquisite Capitolio - the former seat of government now occupied by the Cuban Academy of Sciences. You will walk through the main squares of the historic centre, taking in the romantic colonial atmosphere. You will have an opportunity to enjoy spectacular views from some of Havana's most panoramic spots, as you get to know the heart of this beautiful city.

The Hemingway connection

The second part of the tour will be dedicated to Cuba's unique links with Ernest Hemingway. The winner of both the Nobel Prize in Literature and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction first set foot in Havana in the spring of 1939, setting up home in Cuba and spending time here right up until 1960, shortly before his death.

You'll gain a unique insight into the life of this quintessential writer and his special connection with Cuba, by visiting some of his favourite haunts and discovering the inspiration Cuba provided for some of his most famous writing. Your destinations will include Cojimar, a small fishing village east of the capital which was the inspiration for Hemingway's most successful novel, The Old Man and the Sea.

Finally, as a perfect end to the day you will experience El Floridita, a fish restaurant and bar in Havana which is equally famous for its cocktails (it is known as 'the cradle of the daiquiri') and for being one of Hemingway's favourite places to spend time. Here you will lunch on delicious, succulent sea food whilst you soak up the atmosphere once enjoyed by one of the world's most iconic literary figures.
