Explore the natural side of Havana with a fascinating tour of the historic city and its green treasures

Green Havana is an essential tour whether you're a nature lover or you simply enjoy seeing another side to this wonderful city. It offers visitors an insightful combination of the best that the bustling capital has to offer, followed by the peace and natural beauty of the National Botanical Gardens.

The city sights

Your day will start with a panoramic tour of Havana's highlights, including the imposing Capitolio. This majestic, neoclassical building was the pre-revolutionary seat of Cuban government, modelled on Washington DC's Capitol building. Today, it is home to the prestigious Academy of Sciences of Cuba. Its close neighbour in the Paseo del Prado avenue is the majestic Great Theatre of Havana, home to the Cuban National Ballet.

You will explore the quaint colonial squares of Havana's historic centre in the company of a knowledgeable English-speaking guide, who will share a wealth of historical, cultural and social knowledge with you.

The first part of the day concludes with a visit to the Revolution Square, dominated by the huge Jose Marti Memorial. Opposite the memorial you will see the famous image of the revolutionary hero and global icon Che Guevara, alongside his stirring slogan "Hasta la Victoria Siempre".

Natural wonders

For the second part of the tour you'll travel to the National Botanical Gardens, a magical refuge of calm and serenity away from the noise and bustle of the busy city. Built in accordance with a rigorously scientific plan, the gardens provide carefully designed habitats for almost 150,000 botanical specimens from Cuba and right around the world.

Amongst the sprawling site occupying more than 2,300 square metres, you will find special phytogeographic zones which cater for various species. The indoor collections are housed in three pavilions, each nine metres tall, including the popular Crystal House which hosts cacti and other tropical and subtropical species.

One of the undoubted highlights of the gardens has to be the Japanese Garden, a gift from the Japanese government to the Cuban people and a faithful recreation of a traditional, tranquil Japanese landscaped garden.

Concluding your tour, you'll dine at the nearby Finca Alona. There, you'll enjoy delicious food in a typically Cuban countryside setting, offering an opportunity to contemplate the wonders that you've witnessed throughout the day.
