Overview

The Hotel Villa Soledad, as its names suggests, comprises a series of individual beach villas and two-storey bungalows, all of which are dotted along verdant or sandy pathways. These contain 24 comfortable, clean guest rooms every basic amenity included, from air conditioning to a mini bar and satellite TV.

Because of the reduced number of rooms this hotel feels intimate, secluded and cosy. It is most suited for naturists, guests looking for utmost relaxation and those seeking the simplest, most authentic of escapes in an island hideaway.

As part of the all-inclusive package at the Hotel Villa Soledad, guests are also welcome to use the facilities at the adjacent Hotel Villa Coral. The buildings that make up the Hotel Villa Coral are colonial style villas painted in a variety of bright Caribbean colours. These form a half circle around the hotel pool.

Food-wise, guests at this all-inclusive hotel have a choice between a buffet and an a la carte restaurant. Reservations are required to dine at the a la carte restaurant, but the buffet is openly available for every meal. There is also a bar in the Villa Coral lobby and a swim-up bar at the pool that ensures guests have easy access to cool refreshments while they enjoy splashing around in the sunshine.

Other facilities available to guests at the Hotel Villa Soledad include an entertainment hall and a variety of sporting venues. Among the sports on offer are tennis, volleyball and aerobics. There is also a beauty parlour and massage service available for guests who would like to be pampered during their stay.

Car and bicycle rental can be facilitated by the hotel staff for guests who would like to get out and see the rest of the island. Among the attractions available on Cayo Largo is the Playa Tortuga beach, which is home to a colony of sea turtles at certain times of the year. The island is also home to Cuba's only naturist beach.

Historically, Cayo Largo was a haven for pirates, with Sir Henry Morgan being a regular visitor. There are more than 200 ship wrecks in the local area, including the remains of several galleons. The clear waters are also home to many coral formations and a spectacular variety of colourful tropical fish. This makes diving around the island an exciting experience.

Boats can be chartered to take visitors to nearby islands and there is a regular air service that makes it easy to visit the Cuban mainland.
