Overview

The Conde de Villanueva hotel is a smoker’s dream, with one of the best cigar shops, La Casa del Habano, situated right onsite. Guests can rent private humidors so that their personal reserve is always ready for them, and there is a torcedor (cigar roller) seated in the main hallway. Here, guests can observe this master’s craft and purchase freshly rolled cigars. The tobacco theme continues with the room names, featuring photographs and paintings of the old plantations.

Non-smokers needn’t be put off, however, as the Conde de Villanueva has plenty to offer, whether a cigar fan, or not. The hotel has a colonial charm, and due to its small number of rooms, an intimate feel. Here guests are very well looked after. With a total of just nine rooms you could even book the entire hotel for special occasions and parties.

The courtyard, full of native flowers and trees, has mahogany rocking chairs where guests can fully relax; take in the soothing ambience while reading a book or sipping a cocktail.

The hotel offers a bar, cafeteria and one a la carte restaurant while room service is also available during limited hours. Other convenient facilities include Wi-Fi internet connection, an art gallery and a 24-hour front desk reception. On your doorsteps there are a myriad of atmospheric restaurants, coffee shops and memorable bars to discover.

About a five-minute walk from the Conde de Villanueva is the extremely photogenic Malecon seawall with its long avenue running for eight kilometres along the Atlantic coast. A soulful place where couples walk hand in hand, and groups of people meet, this stretch of road sometimes gets so battered by the aggressive waves of the Atlantic that it is closed to cars. The buildings on the other side of the road have felt the effects of the sea air for so long that many of them are now crumbling, but are protected by a special status issued by the City Historian’s Office.

The delights of Old Havana are not far away from the Conde de Villanueva. History lovers can spend an entire day walking around the nearby fortresses including: the Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabana, Castillo de Real Fuerza, Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta and Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro. There is history oozing from every corner of this side of Havana, whether it be the colonial architecture, or signs of the revolution such as vintage cars and images of the iconic Che Guevara adorning walls.
