Overview

For anyone wanting a simple base to sleep, while spending their days and nights out and about in Havana, the Caribbean Hotel is ideal. This hotel has everything an explorer might need: comfortable rooms, air conditioning, coffee shop and a bar to meet before heading out on the town. Hotel guests have access to extra facilities at neighbouring hotels, such as swimming pools and inexpensive restaurants, as well. The hotel is located in the perfect place, halfway down the Prado (Paseo del Prado), right on the border of Central and Old Town Havana. The Central Park, with its statue of Jose Marti, is close by and worth a visit. Also nearby is the popular Malecon sea road, where the sea crashes against the promenade, and the residents of Havana gather to meet and socialise. When wandering around the neighbourhood of Central Havana, it is easy to see why the capital city has earned the nickname of 'city of columns', with fine examples of Corinthian, Ionic and Doric columns outside many buildings. This area of Havana was built outside the city walls of Havana Vieja, and the Prado is a central feature. The long promenade is very European in feel, with grand bronze lions stationed at each end. The Partagas tobacco factory is also situated in Central Havana; the largest of its type in Cuba, employing roughly 200 rollers. The Caribbean Hotel sits on the border between Central Havana and the Old Town, so it is worthwhile flaunting this and exploring both areas. Havana Vieja, or, Old Town, as it is known, has so many historical delights to explore, including ancient imposing fortresses, intricate cathedrals and churches, and many colonial buildings. The architecture around this old part of the city has examples of Baroque, neo-classical and Art Deco styles, so it is great to simply walk around, looking up and keeping the camera poised. Havana is well known for its nightlife and there are a number of bars and nightclubs in the area around the Caribbean Hotel. When staying in Havana, it is worth arranging a trip of an evening to the Tropicana, which has been entertaining guests since it opened in 1939. This Cuban cabaret club is world-renowned for it shows featuring up to 200 dancers, musicians and singers, and lots of feathers and sequins as well!
