Often referred to as the "Galapagos of the Caribbean" because of its diversity of marine life, this protected national park is home to many species of shark, myriad shoals of exotic, tropical fish, saltwater crocodiles, and of course turtles. Aptly named, La Tortuga translates into English as "the turtle".

Divers head out from La Tortuga in speedy skiffs that are moored to the main hotel. The instructors and guides have an extensive knowledge of Jardines de la Reina, making them ideally placed to make suggestions based on their experience. They do, however, pride themselves on a collaborative approach so will make recommendations and tailor dives according to guests' preferences, and with over one hundred dive sites there is plenty of choice. Health and safety is viewed as paramount, so equipment is well-maintained and the crew constantly ensure that all relevant guidelines are adhered to.

The cabins on board all boast their own bathroom, complete with a hot shower and a full buffet breakfast is presented each morning.

Dinner on La Tortuga is a sociable affair, with everyone gathering around the large dining table to swap stories and anecdotes from the day's diving. The menu consists of traditional Cuban favourites along with meat dishes, and of course fish. The speciality on board is lobster, cooked and served in many different ways, accompanied by crisp salads. Mouth-watering arrays of desserts round off the meal before discussions are had to make plans for the next morning's underwater escapades. The foredeck and afterdeck are laid out with tables and chairs, making these perfect places to hang out with a drink - or two. Former guests speak very highly of the frozen mojitos!

The beauty of La Tortuga is that you actually become a part of this beautiful marine wilderness during your stay whilst retaining all of the comfort of a hotel.
