It's interesting time for the Cuban music industry. For the first time, Jamaican musicians have arrived in Cuba to record the first even musical collaboration between Cuban and Jamaican instrumentalists. The man in charge, Australian producer Jake Savana, says he's excited by this musical coming together of minds.

Interesting time for the Cuban music industry

For fans of Jamaican and Cuban culture, there is some exciting news making it's way round the music world. Whether you're from Cuba or visiting, if you enjoy Jamaican musician, a group of musicians have just arrived for a unique collaboration.

Cubans have plenty to celebrate with their rich musical culture. Cuban music has many styles such as Afro-Cuban jazz and music with Spanish and other European influences. Music from Cuba itself has influenced many other countries and is particularly popular in Latin America.

But these different styles combined with Jamaican reggae, ska and rock steady music will create something new and interesting for music lovers worldwide.

The group of Jamaican musicians arrived in Cuba recently to record the first even musical collaboration between Cuban and Jamaican instrumentalists. This is music history for locals and fans of music alike.

The artists are Bongo Herman, Sly and Robbie and also Bopee. They arrived in Cuba ready to combine cultures in the studios. These artists have been chosen carefully. The artists are selected from original Studio One composers. Musicians who have contributed to the Jamaican music business will combine with Cuban music legends, including members of the original Buena Vista album.

Barely any real travel difference separates the two islands, only a mere 90 miles apart. Yet, for some reason the two cultures have never come together musically and recorded an album.

The two music cultures may have combined at points spontaneously, but have never been produced and arranged like this before. Finally, a music producer from Australia has stepped forward to put the wheels into motion.

Their Australian producer, Jake Savana, has worked with many Jamaican musicians before, and has plenty of experience for this exciting project. He was quoted as saying that he sees this as a unique coming together of musical minds. Savana, who is creating something special by producing this album, said:

"There have obviously been cultural collaborations before, but nothing that took Jamaican musicians into Cuba and link with Cuban musicians. I realised that this was something I really wanted to do."

This new collaboration will combine a variety of genres from the islands to create something different. The musicians have started their recording and fans can expect to hear something in the near future. In addition to the recording in Cuba, the music will be taken back to Jamaica to have additional vocals and sounds added to the final mix.

There are high hopes for this album as though it is in the hands of very talented musicians. If this collaboration goes, well, Cuba could find visitors from other island wanting to get in on the action.
