What Prince Charles and Camilla got up to in Havana during their second day in Cuba

It’s official now, The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall have arrived in Cuba and are currently enjoying their second day in the biggest of all Caribbean islands. We’ve done some digging to find out more details about what they’ll be getting up to during their time in Havana and we learnt that they’re going beyond the capital to explore the new coastal Mariel development.

What Prince Charles and Camilla got up to in Havana during their second day in Cuba

It’s only been a little over 24 hours since Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, arrived in Havana last Sunday afternoon, but already they’ve been getting up to a lot in the Cuban capital, attending community centres, visiting the Acosta Danza dance school presided by Cuban-British (and CBE title holder) Carlos Acosta and enjoying a full tour of Havana with the guidance of the Historian of the City, Dr. Eusebio Leal Spengler.

The very first thing Prince Charles and Camilla did upon landing in Cuba was to attend a wreath-laying ceremony in honour of Cuba’s National Hero, poet, writer, thinker and independence war fighter, Jose Marti. The ceremony took place in Havana’s emblematic Revolution Square (Plaza de la Revolucion) and Prince Charles laid white roses in memory of the Cuban hero before proceeding to tour the Jose Marti Memorial along with his wife.

Yesterday, from morning ‘till evening, both royals had a packed scheduled of events, starting with an official tour of Havana and its old historic centre, led by the man behind its amazing restoration works and Historian of the City, Dr Eusebio Leal Spengler. Prince Charles and Camilla explored the city on foot and Clarence House’s official Twitter account published many photos of their Old Havana journey. As can be seen in the colourful, sunny pictures many Cubans lined the streets in the hope of catching a glimpse of the royals and saying hello.

The tour continued with a stop at the Acosta Danza dance school set up by CBE Carlos Acosta, who danced with the Royal Ballet for 17 years and returned home to set up his own dancing company and give aspiring dancers the opportunity to develop their talent. It was here that the royals were treated to a private dance performance.

To close off the touring of the day the visited the Muraleando art community in the Gaudi-esque town of Jamainitas, where art takes over the streets in a very dramatic way. Here, the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall saw the many local workshops offering local residents of all ages the opportunity to put their creativity at work while promoting social inclusion and equality.

Later on, that evening, the Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall joined Cuba’s President, Miguel Diaz-Canel for an official welcome dinner at the Palacio de la Revolucion.

Are you curious about what’s in store for the royal duo during their third day in Cuba? Well, we’ve learnt that tomorrow Prince Charles and Camilla will be visiting the Mariel Development Zone (ZED Mariel), an ambitious coastal project in a strategic location at the heart of the Caribbean and at the crossroads of main shipping routes. If you want to find out more about what tomorrow will bring for the last day of the #RoyalVisitCuba, watch this space!
