Cuba's passion for the arts is well known, and the Havana Biennial of Fine Art is one of Latin America's most important art events. ARTempoCuba, the non-profit for the country's fine arts and culture, is offering travel packages for next year's event, which will be held in April of 2019.
Yesterday, Will Smith made it to Havana for a very special reason. The U.S. actor, comedian and singer arrived in the Cuban capital to run its most popular race - the Marabana marathon. Despite the rain, Smith joined some other 6,000 Cuban and foreign runners and covered the 21 kilometres that go from El Capitolio to El Malecon, the long and leafy Avenida de los Presidentes and Carlos III before heading back to the starting point.
While there's no shortage of things to do in Havana, some travellers like to explore a little off the beaten track. Aside from the regular galleries, theatres and markets, seek out some of Cuba's secret hidden corners to discover quirky wonders and unusual experiences.
Cuba has received four million tourists so far this year, according to the country's Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz. The tropical Caribbean island reached the four million mark for the third year in a row earlier this month, and tourism officials are expecting to receive another 750,000 international sun-seeking travellers by the end of 2018.
