Iberostar is building a new five-star all-inclusive resort in Holguin, in addition to three other hotels in Gibara
After expanding in other parts of Cuba, Iberostar has now turned its attention to Holguin, where it has been recently revealed that it's building a five-star all-inclusive beach resort in Guardalavaca. But the Spanish hotelier isn't stopping there as plans are also underway for a further three new properties in the eastern Cuban province, namely in the town of Gibara, famous for its annual Low Budget International Cinema Festival (Festival de Cine Pobre de Gibara).
Cuban Minister of Tourism Manuel Marrero Cruz has plans to reinvent Havana as an updated tourist destination. Taking advantage of Havana’s 500th-anniversary celebrations, the minister intends to invest in Havana’s infrastructure so it can welcome new visitors.
An interview with the UK's ambassador to Cuba reveals the island's enormous potential for UK investors
During a recent interview with Travel Trade Caribbean, the UK's ambassador to Cuba, Dr Antony Stokes, spoke of the incredible tourism potential the island had for UK investors. He also talked about the recent strengthening of relations between both countries and how upon the UK's departure from the EU, new opportunities for commercially engaging with the island would present themselves, as well as adding how a cultural programme was in place to strengthen ties between both nations.
Iberostar Hotels and Resorts has revealed it will open its first five-star Selection category hotel in Holguin, Cuba next month. The Spanish hotel group already operates more than 20 properties in Cuba, and the new family-friendly resort will have 638 guest rooms and suites, six gourmet restaurants, kids' club, splash park and four swimming pools. The property will offer an all-inclusive experience for guests.
Cruises to Cuba continue to be popular among travellers, and Virgin Voyages, part of Richard Branson's Virgin Group, will begin its inaugural cruise season to the island in 2020. The line's first ship, Scarlet Lady, will make the inaugural sailing to Cuba, which will offer people-to-people experiences on the island.
